Park City
May 30 – September 14, 2025
Opening Reception: Friday, May 30, 2025, 6:00–8:00 p.m.
Step After Step explores the history and ongoing resonance of walking as an art form. Featuring work by Marina Abramović / Ulay, Francis Alÿs, Regina José Galindo, Bill Gilbert, Richard Long, Hendl Helen Mirra, Museum of Walking (with Angela Ellsworth and KB Thomason), Paulo Nazareth, Sohei Nishino, Ernesto Pujol, and Kristen Jean Wheatley, the exhibition traces how a simple, everyday act has become a profound medium for artistic inquiry.
From the solitary walks of Richard Long through the British countryside to the politically charged performances of Galindo and Nazareth, walking becomes both action and artifact. The show spans video, photography, sculpture, ephemera, and participatory works, inviting viewers to consider each step as a marker of memory, resistance, or presence.
Rooted in the conceptual revolutions of the 1960s and grounded in the body, Step After Step reveals walking as a dynamic and poetic language for mapping the self and the world.
