Opening Reception: Friday, October 3, 6–9 PM
Border & Square Gallery presents Barned & Baled, a solo exhibition by Rachel Maughan. The show captures the tactile rhythms and rituals of rural labor through expressive, gestural painting. Maughan’s imagery evokes the weight of seasons and the physicality of work—fields cut, twined, and baled; barns shadowed in gold and heat. The artist’s poetic statement, echoing the labor and land that shape her practice, becomes part of the visual experience:
“Out into the field John Deer rolls. Through the entanglement of the brush… Lifted to the dry dim barn, darkness covering the golden piles, stacked string by string, made inseparable, heat-suffocated. Eighty-five acres Barned and Baled.”
