Stories from the Bone Box — Fidalis Buehler
Modern West presents Stories from the Bone Box, a solo exhibition of works by Utah-based artist Fidalis Buehler. Drawing on his Pacific Island and Euro-American heritage, Buehler creates mixed-media paintings, prints, and sculptures that weave mythology, dreams, revelation, mysticism, and ritual into complex self-portraits of identity. His layered and intuitive process becomes a means of passing down stories from his own “bone box”—a metaphor rooted in Pacific Island culture where bones symbolize ancestors and the box serves as a vessel of memory.
The exhibition explores lineage and personal symbolism through dreamlike imagery: characters drifting between worlds, canines as messengers, swimming pools as sanctuaries, plants as ancestral figures, and birthday cakes as monoliths of mortality.
