Shifting Terrain, Mapping Place presents new work by Al Denyer exploring how maps picture and interpret landscapes. Using the visual language of cartography, especially the contour lines that trace changes in height and depth in the land, Denyer invites viewers to consider how space and distance are represented on a flat surface. Her practice draws attention to the moments when digital tools falter—when mapping technologies glitch and create uncanny, alternative terrains. By combining traditional mapping lines with accidental digital distortions, Denyer reflects on the boundary between the real and the imagined, and how both shape our understanding of place.
