Valerie Hollstein

Valerie Hollstein grew up in Provence in a family that cherished art, shaping her lifelong affinity for vitreous glass and oil paint. Balancing the demands of raising two children and a career in the airline industry, she later returned to school and earned a Bachelor in Fine Arts and anthropology from the University of Utah.

Hollstein is best known for her vitreous glass paintings, a process in which she assembles shards of colored glass to construct richly layered compositions. She finds inspiration in local subjects and most pieces are filled with cultural facets from the Wasatch mountains.
