In There is Nothing More Shocking than Joy, Susan Kirby presents autobiographical acrylic paintings shaped by her experiences in Utah and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Blending elements of memory, folklore, and spirituality, her work weaves together scenes of architecture, landscape, and personal narrative, including recent explorations of the body following heart surgery. Rendered in a naïve, visionary style, Kirby’s paintings reflect a life lived across places, cultures, and emotional terrains.
