Self-taught painter Stewart Seidman grew up on the streets of Brooklyn, where baseball, boxing, and drawing shaped his earliest creative impulses. Friends quickly recognized his gift, often asking him to sketch their favorite athletes, and those early requests helped establish a lifelong relationship with observation, gesture, and storytelling. His artistic instincts later carried him into a successful career in advertising as an art director and creative director, roles that refined his eye for composition, clarity, and visual impact.
Transitioning from advertising to fine art, Seidman cultivated a painterly style defined by movement, immediacy, and emotional sincerity. His work has been exhibited in museum settings, featured in interviews and podcasts, and collected widely by individuals who gravitate toward the humanity of his figures and the authenticity of his scenes.
A central focus of Seidman’s recent work is his FedEx Series, a body of paintings created using recycled and reworked FedEx envelopes that originally served as his paint palettes. These envelopes—creased, layered with pigment, and marked by the natural gestures of the painting process—were later transformed into new compositions. By repurposing the very materials that bore the traces of his studio practice, Seidman elevates them into finished artworks, blurring the line between tool and medium and giving new life to objects otherwise destined to be discarded.
Working from his studio in St. George, Utah, Seidman continues to expand his artistic range with the same curiosity, discipline, and expressive drive that have shaped his life’s work. His paintings remain rooted in the belief that ordinary materials—and the quiet histories they hold—can become powerful vehicles for storytelling.
