Shirin Abedinirad (b. 1986, Tabriz, Iran) is an Iranian artist whose work spans video, performance, land art, and installation, with a focus on identity, belonging, and the human connection to nature. Originally trained in painting, she later studied graphic design and fashion, and her early public interventions in Iran examined gender, sexuality, and compassion. A transformative desert experience in 2013 shifted her practice toward elemental materials—water, mirrors, light—as she began creating minimalist environments that act as thresholds between body, landscape, and the infinite. Abedinirad has exhibited internationally in festivals, biennials, and institutions throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, the Middle East, and North America. She is the author of Fashion and Conceptual Art in the 21st Century (Persian) and the recipient of multiple grants and awards. Abedinirad holds an MFA from Michigan State University and currently works between the U.S. and overseas projects.
