Russell E. Ricks is a Payson, Utah–based painter known for evocative landscapes and rural scenes that celebrate the beauty, history, and quiet rhythms of the American West. Raised in Rexburg, Idaho, in a family of artists, he studied painting under his father, Don Ricks, and learned through workshops with influential painters including Sergei Bongart and Milford Zornes. He earned an associate degree in art from Ricks College and continued his studies at Brigham Young University. Working primarily in oil, Ricks draws inspiration from pioneer architecture, pastoral landscapes, aspen groves, and the mountain scenery of Idaho and Utah. His paintings seek to evoke a sense of peace, nostalgia, and connection to place, inviting viewers to slow down and reflect on the enduring beauty of the natural and rural world.
