Spanning five decades of work, One Thing After Another surveys the prolific career of Los Angeles artist Karen Carson, whose practice has been shaped by continual experimentation, technical rigor, and an enduring sense of play. From her early “zipper paintings,” which challenged the flatness of the painted surface, to sculptural abstractions, lightboxes, banners, and narrative works, Carson has consistently explored the possibilities of color, composition, material, and popular culture.
Working across an evolving range of styles and subjects—from abstraction and signage-inspired graphics to landscapes and farm machinery—Carson balances intellectual inquiry with humor and accessibility. Her work reflects a sophisticated understanding of structure and color while remaining inviting, playful, and often surprising. Together, the exhibition reveals an artist whose curiosity has continually driven her to reinvent her practice while maintaining a distinctive visual voice.
