is a painter and illustrator whose work combines realism with subtle abstraction. Raised in Lakewood, California, he studied art illustration at Utah State University before spending 13 years in New York City creating book cover and magazine illustrations. During his time working at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Pettingill developed a deeper interest in creating personal fine art rooted in observation and atmosphere. His paintings simplify forms and compositions to focus on quiet narrative moments, often using restrained palettes and a balance between dimensional realism and flattened abstract space.
