Make Me a Landscape, Do Not Include Any Sky explores the relationship between art, nature, and technology in the emerging age of artificial intelligence. For this body of work, Ben Bloch collaborated with artist and tech entrepreneur John Brownell to train a closed-circuit AI image model using Bloch’s own paintings, generating images in a visual language modeled on his signature style. Bloch then reversed the process, translating those AI-generated images back into paint on canvas. The resulting works consider what artificial intelligence might reveal about human creativity, landscape, and perception, while insisting on the material and expressive power of paint itself. Rather than presenting the paintings as products of AI, Bloch frames them as personal creations shaped by his experiences with nature, art, and the will to create.
