In In the Shadow of the Giant Mushrooms, Vincent Mattina examines the legacy of uranium mining and the atomic age in the American West. Through assemblage, mixed media, and video, the exhibition traces the arc from extraction to exposure, foregrounding the environmental and human consequences embedded in the region’s landscape. Incorporating industrial materials, archival references, and bodily imagery, Mattina’s work collapses the distance between policy and lived experience, asking viewers to confront the lasting costs of progress and the responsibility of living with its aftermath.
