Salt Lake City
Apr. 27 – May 3
Nightly, 6-7 pm
Closing Reception: May 3, 4-7 pm
Fern and Reed – Suzanne Bybee and Lisa DeFrance – are hosting a week of multidisciplinary art performances in the back of Books and Supply. Geomythology presents seven unique formations every night this week from 6 – 7 p.m. sharp. The pair has curated a week of interplay between disciplines and mediums amongst the linens. Lisa DeFrance performed the opening night on Monday, improvising expressions to ethereal soundscapes and textures improvised by Chaz Prymek.
Incorporating the duo’s specialty of natural fibers and dying, vintage linens and natural pigments, linens dyed with harvested mineral pigments scatter the shop. Corked glass tincture jars hold the raw mineral on shelves, swatches of their painted color hang on the brick walls of the shop in an elegant display of earthen desert Sherwin Williams. As the mordant, they used soy milk, binding the natural mineral pigments to the linens in a warm desert hum. Plums and salmons and terra cottas twinkle in their dangle, while the performances in the back “explore the intersections of earth materials and mythic narratives – where geology meets story.”
Formation No. 2 on April 28 is a poetry reading and film by Steve Creson at 6 p.m.
Formation No. 3 on April 29 is a performance by Fern Creson, eating the old world at 6 p.m.
Formation No. 4 on April 30, Duncan Hilton will present poetry, Word From Babylon, at 6 p.m.
Formation No. 5 on May 1, Jean LaSarre will perform dance titled Emerging Mirage 6 p.m.
The weekend will have earlier performances starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Formation No. 6 on May 2, Esperanza Cordero Pacejka will perform opera, Songstress.
Formation No. 7 on May 3 will be the final formation from 4 to 7 p.m. when all participants in Geomythology will sit for an artist panel. “Bring your questions, observations and presence.”
