blip — Roland Thompson at ‘A’ Gallery

Salt Lake City
July 17 – August 29, 2026
Reception: July 17, 6–9 pm

In blip, Roland Thompson presents a series of custom-cut, three-dimensional wall works that blur the boundaries between painting and sculpture. Inspired by the visual language of pop art, arcade games, and digital culture, the exhibition uses vibrant color, rhythmic line, and carefully shaped forms to create optical illusions that suggest movement, sound, and spatial disruption.

Thompson’s works employ minimalist compositions and painterly techniques to transform simple geometric forms into dynamic visual experiences. Through these playful interventions, blip explores how shape, color, and pattern can interrupt perception and spark new connections.

Roland Thompson is an artist and educator who teaches at Utah Valley University and Brigham Young University. He earned a BFA from Brigham Young University and an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, with additional postgraduate study in Paris. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is included in the collections of Brigham Young University, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, the City of Mesa, Arizona, and the Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts.
