Alison Hill Spencer is a Utah painter whose current body of work centers on wildlife portraiture, with a focus on the birds who inhabit Utah’s lakes and surrounding wetlands. Raised in a family that traveled widely in search of birds—from marshes close to home to habitats around the world—she learned early that the species in Utah are as extraordinary as any found elsewhere. Spencer’s work asks viewers to look closely at the animals that depend on our region’s fragile ecosystems, especially as development places new pressures on habitat and ecological balance.
Spencer earned her BFA from Utah Valley University in 2023. She lives in the foothills of Utah with her family, where she divides her time between painting, writing, and exploring the landscape she finds both beautiful and imperiled.
