Curated by Las Vegas Paiute artist, activist and Nuwu Art founder Fawn Douglas, Tooveep (The Land) explores the intersection of identity, landscape and storytelling through contemporary Indigenous art. Its title comes from the Southern Paiute word Too-veep, meaning “the land,” emphasizing the enduring relationship between people and place.
The exhibition brings together more than 20 emerging and established artists from the Southwest and Great Basin alongside nationally recognized artists represented in the Gochman Family Collection. Through painting, weaving, basketry and mixed media, the works present the land not simply as a backdrop but as a collaborator and keeper of stories. Featured artists include Avis Charley (Spirit Lake Dakota/Diné), Jean LaMarr (Northern Paiute/Maidu), Marie Watt (Seneca/German-Scot) and Jeffrey Gibson (Mississippi Band of Choctaw/Cherokee), among others.
