Taylor Wright

Taylor Wright is an oil painter based in Salt Lake City. His recent work is a series of contemporary vanitas still life paintings. He is a graduate of the Utah Valley University painting program, and works as the Exhibition Designer for the UVU Museum of Art by day.

This series of paintings is formally influenced by the 17th-18th century vanitas still life tradition, but applies a symbolic language derived from a 21st century American context: memento mori born out of the background radiation of routine mass shootings, surveillance, police executions, and a feedback loop of escalating alienation & spiritual crisis.
