BIO
Fiona Phillips is a contemporary artist living in North Salt Lake, Utah. Much of what shapes her studio practice is derived from her experiences both as a girl in England and as part of an English immigrant family in America. Memory and relationships are a source of inspiration for much of her work. Fiona is also interested in exploring a possible connection between the 1950’s and contemporary women. The main focus of her studio work is figurative oil painting but finds inspiration in other media such as photography, installation, and drawing. Creating clothing, props and headwear is part of Fiona’s studio practice and she dresses her models in these items for the painted images. Fiona earned an MFA in Visual Art from Vermont College of Fine Art in 2008, and an MA in art/Humanities from Cal State Dominguez Hills in 2001. She was an adjunct professor of art at Southern Utah University until 2009. Before moving to Utah, Fiona worked and exhibited in California. She has participated in numerous national, state, and regional juried shows, including the Springville Museum of Fine Art, the St. George Art Museum and the LDS Museum of Art and History in Salt Lake City. She has enjoyed one-person exhibitions in Utah, Arizona and Nevada, and is part of private and corporate collections in Europe and the US. Fiona is married to the love of her life and has a wonderful, energetic family.
