Art from Abstract to Zion: Celebrating 10 Years of SUMA

Cedar City
June 5 – September 26, 2026

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Southern Utah Museum of Art and the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Center for the Arts, Art from Abstract to Zion presents a wide-ranging exhibition drawn from SUMA’s permanent collection. Featuring works from the museum vault alongside acquisitions and gifts received over the past decade, the exhibition spans artists and traditions from Marc Chagall and Maynard Dixon to Japanese woodblock prints and contemporary photography. The exhibition also honors beloved Utah painter Jimmie Jones through newly commissioned olfactory artworks by scent artist Cathleen Faubert, who reimagines landscapes central to Jones’s work—including Zion, Cedar Mountain, and the Grand Canyon—through immersive scent-based installations. Together, the exhibition reflects the growth, diversity, and regional significance of SUMA’s collection and community over the past decade.
