Christopher Young (b. 1963) is an artist working in Utah whose practice grows from sustained attention to the ordinary and the human body. Raised in the mountains of Utah, he developed an early love for drawing and painting, shaped by long exposure to landscape and the rhythms of place. Young earned his BFA in Printmaking in 1986, and today works full time in his Utah studio with support from his family. His paintings and works on paper often begin with familiar objects—tools, vessels, mechanical forms—as well as the human figure, which he regards as endlessly compelling. Young views his process as one of discovery rather than invention: searching for “moments of truth and beauty” and giving visual form to small instances of transcendence.
