Travis Lovell is a photographer whose practice is rooted in prolonged observation and a pursuit of visual order within the complexity of the everyday. He is interested in the way simple, sophisticated compositions can reveal underlying structure—offering a counterpoint to chaos—and the way the camera becomes a tool to slow down perception until nuance emerges. Lovell earned his MFA from Maine Media College in 2011, his BFA from Brigham Young University in 2003, and his AS from Utah Valley University in 2000. His studio practice and his pedagogical philosophy are inseparable: he sees photography itself as a form of teaching—an act of learning to see differently, and then offering that new way of seeing back to others.
Lovell currently teaches photography at Utah Valley University.
