Brad Teare is a Providence, Utah–based painter and former illustrator whose richly textured landscapes explore the expressive possibilities of thick paint and color. After a successful illustration career creating work for publishers including The New York Times and Random House, Teare turned his focus to painting the Western landscape. Influenced by seeing the original works of Vincent van Gogh at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, he developed an experimental approach emphasizing tactile surfaces, palette knife application, and vibrant color. His investigations into texture led to his widely followed “Thick Paint” blog and YouTube channel, where he shares techniques involving oil, acrylic, and unconventional texturing materials. Teare’s work has been featured in residencies, museums, and exhibitions throughout the United States.
