BIO
Tatiana Svrckova Larsen was born in Cadca, Slovakia. She has attended Josef Vydra’s School of Applied Arts in Bratislava and University of Matej Bel in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia. In 2010 she received her BA in Studio Arts from Wichita State University and in 2012 she graduated with her MFA in Art and Technology from The Ohio State University. Tatiana Larsen completed one-year artist-in-residence at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art in Salt Lake City, UT. She received a number of scholarships and awards, some of which are: Ulrich Museum Alliance Award, Alfred & Ester Penny Scholarship. Larsen has exhibited her work in venues such as Urban Arts Space in Columbus, OH, Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, Central Utah Art Center in Salt Lake City, UT as well as several alternative gallery spaces and performance venues in Los Angels and Wichita areas. Her videos have screened at the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, OH, Torrance Museum of Art in Torrance, CA and Sam Huston University in Huston, TX.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Tatiana Svrckova Larsen uses an interdisciplinary approach to link her personal journey of things such as cultural assimilation, spirituality and interpersonal relationships. Her work often explores the “grey area” between two contrasts and the idea of passage from one condition or place to another. Larsen often uses cultural clichés, religious symbolism and images from her personal history.
