Up & Upcoming to the South

UTAH COUNTY
UP: Fairreality: A Look at Life through Multicolored Glasses, Artwork by Sabrina Squires.|1| "Many ancient civilizations mastered the concept of representing their lives two-dimensionally, as evidenced in their paintings and relief sculptures. While recognizably capturing the goings-on of their societies, they remained in a singular dimension. Flatness allows the viewer to focus on the formal elements of painting, such as man-made lines, texture, and color. Each of my works begins with a layer of National Geographic pages sanded with a brillo pad. The sanded paper provides rich textural depth amidst ink drawings and paint. Building layers of drawing and color creates a synergic volume for the viewer to enjoy." AND: Designing Nature's Creations, Artwork by Marilyn Sunderland.|2| "About 4 years ago, when I purchased my ultra high speed engraving/carving tool, it changed my life. I love the relief effects I get when carving on gourds and being able to use other mediums to enhance each piece, makes it even better. The gourd has become my canvas to create my art."
