In his Salt Lake City studio, Orr is currently working on a new series of oil paintings, rooted in the landscapes of his local surroundings and rendered entirely from his own analog film photography. \u201cThis gives me a way to generate references and inspiration for myself that is entirely offline,\u201d he says. \u201cI\u2019m finding I\u2019m maintaining a higher quality of attention and deeper passion throughout the whole process.\u201d<\/h4>\n<h4 data-start=\"1605\" data-end=\"2096\">Armed with a camera and an eye for spring blossoms and evening light, Orr gathers reference material on evening walks around his neighborhood or during painting trips around the Great Salt Lake. \u201cEven just a walk around the block can provide stunning moments,\u201d he says. His illustration series <em data-start=\"2269\" data-end=\"2282\">Golden Hour<\/em>, created for THE BLOCKS downtown alliance, recently swept multiple top illustration competitions, including Communication Arts and the Society of Illustrators. \u201cAs an illustrator, this feels extremely validating,\u201d he says. \u201cThe Society of Illustrators has always been my most sought after accolade.\u201d<\/h4>\n<h4 data-start=\"2584\" data-end=\"3075\">In painting, Orr is drawn to questions of aesthetic sensitivity. \u201cWhat quality of paint evokes the deepest sense of painterly sensitivity? What\u2019s the ideal mixture of traditional colors with contemporary artificial pigments?\u201d As he works, he feels his approach becoming more abstract. \u201cBy building my foundation firmly on how I see, how I paint, and what I like about painting, I can feel my intentions shifting. Ten years from now, I might even be painting completely non-objective images.\u201d<\/h4>\n<h4 data-start=\"3077\" data-end=\"3389\">Whether casting sunlight in glass or chasing it in oil, Orr continues to chase\u2014and share\u2014the beauty that surrounds him. \u201cAfter being graced by this beauty during a time of uncertainty,\u201d he says, \u201cI feel a burning urge to translate those sights and feelings into painting.
