Daniel Charon, artistic director of Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, has announced that he will step down at the end of the company\u2019s 12th season in the spring of 2025. After a transformative 12-year tenure, Charon shared his decision, citing it as a deeply personal choice made in pursuit of new adventures.<\/p>\n

In a heartfelt statement, Charon expressed his gratitude for the opportunities he\u2019s had during his time with the company. \u201cThe Ririe-Woodbury journey I\u2019ve been on has changed me forever, and I\u2019ll never forget my time with this phenomenal organization,\u201d he said. Charon praised the dancers and staff he has worked with, as well as former Executive Director Jena Woodbury and current Executive Director Thom Dancy for their unwavering support and leadership.<\/p>\n

Daniel Charon has been the artistic director of Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company since 2013, bringing with him an impressive background in dance, choreography, and integrated media. Originally from Minnesota, Charon grew up immersed in the arts, with a passion for dance emerging during his teenage years. He pursued his education at the North Carolina School of the Arts, where he earned his B.F.A., followed by an M.F.A. in Choreography and Integrated Media from the California Institute of the Arts.<\/p>\n

Charon\u2019s career has spanned over two decades, including ten seasons as a full-time dancer with Doug Varone and Dancers. He has also performed with the Lim\u00f3n Dance Company and collaborated with a variety of American arts organizations. His choreography has been featured at prestigious venues such as the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Festival and Jacob\u2019s Pillow, among others. Known for his collaborative spirit, Charon has earned praise for his ability to create deeply human and emotional works that challenge and engage both dancers and audiences. His work often explores themes of trust, relationships, and space, while his fascination with minimalism allows for contemplation and discovery within the movement.<\/p>\n

As he looks ahead to his next chapter, Charon is committed to ensuring a smooth transition. He is assisting in the search for a new artistic director, which will begin in January 2025. \u201cI\u2019m excited to witness Ririe-Woodbury\u2019s continued growth,\u201d Charon said, noting his eagerness to support the company\u2019s future.<\/p>\n
