The Bountiful Davis Art Center (BDAC)<\/a> invites art enthusiasts to explore four new exhibitions, each offering a unique perspective on personal and collective experiences. From August 16 to September 21, 2024, visitors can engage with the introspective works of Ryan Moffett and Halee Roth in “Experience…Process…Discover,” delve into the complexities of truth and identity in Terrel VanLeeuwen’s “In Search of Truth,” reflect on the balance between individuality and community in Adam Thomas’s “The Tension Between ‘Me’ and ‘We’,” and witness the intersection of resilience and fragility in nature through Kate Aitchison’s “An Exquisite Extreme.” The exhibitions kick off with an opening reception on Friday, August 16, from 6 to 8 pm, where guests can meet the artists and enjoy complimentary refreshments. These exhibitions promise to provoke thought and inspire a deeper connection to both self and society.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Aug. 16: The Compass Gallery Opens in Provo<\/strong><\/p>\n

Provo\u2019s newest art gallery opens Friday, August 16th, with a private opening on Thursday the 15th. The Compass Gallery<\/a> is spearheaded by Esther Hi’ilani Candari, director of programming at the recently closed Writ and Vision. The gallery will open in a larger facility on the ground floor of Provo\u2019s historic Taylor Brothers Building, 250 W. Center St., Suite 101. The gallery will share the space with Faith Matters, an LDS-based publishing platform. Candari says she wants to offer a platform for both established and emerging artists.\u00a0 <\/span>She points out that despite Utah Valley being home to many world-class artists who achieve national and international recognition, few have the opportunity to show their work locally. A painter, Candor studied at Brigham Young University Hawaii (BFA) and at Liberty University in Virginia and moved to Provo in 2020. The grand opening event on Aug. 16 from 4 to 9 p.m., will feature\u00a0 <\/span>J. Kirk Richard\u2019s annual exhibition as well as a continuation of the exhibition of Lisa De Long\u2019s series \u201cHorizon,\u201d and a guest exhibition of select work by Young Sung Kim.<\/p>\n

On August 17, 2024, the 801 Salon No. 33 presents an evening dedicated to the beauty and challenges of the Great Salt Lake. The event features “A Specific Gravity,” an evocative photography and installation project by Alexandra Fuller. This work explores the resilience of places and people on the edge, using translucent linen tapestries that change over time, mirroring the shifting nature of the lake itself. The installation is enhanced by a collaborative performance with choreographer Kara Komarnitsky and dancer Severin Sargent-Catterton, creating an immersive experience that reflects the fluid and temporal qualities of the lake. Following this, “Lake Bodies,” a live dance performance and film premiere, will further engage audiences in contemplating the environmental and cultural significance of the Great Salt Lake. Hosted at Atelier Mill, the evening begins with the exhibit at 7 pm, followed by the live performance at 8:20 pm and the film premiere at 9 pm.
