She is pursuing a BFA, and graduation is expected in December of 2024. Rylee resided for much of her life in rural Montana and Idaho, away from the majority of human populations. Solitude drove her to begin making artwork however possible. Rylee creates pieces that resonate with themes of isolation; her inspiration manifests through past homes and experiences. During her years in university, she has shown art at multiple group shows and has been awarded talent scholarships for 3 consecutive years. Rylee’s practices are not limited to specific mediums, but her most recent works primarily feature mixed-media paintings and drawings.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I am an artist creating work about my time spent in isolated environments. My childhood homes inspire many of my pieces. The emotions attached to these places manifest themselves through symbols of longing, mortality, and change. I often place birds within my art, as they are significant creatures throughout my memories. By isolating and then combining spacial elements, I shape liminal atmospheres that lack grounding. These reflect my familiarity with dissociation and experiences related to my past homes.

LINKS

https://ryleenelson.cargo.site

IMAGES

Rylee Nelson, “3 pm,”
