Utilizing a symphony of bright colors and textures, my work creates moments rooted in reality where there’s flow, rigidity, joy, dissonance, and the vast number of emotions we feel as humans. Yet, when stepping back and viewing the whole is where you find the overall harmony and divinity in life. I make use of soak staining, color field, and splatter techniques coupled with stitching canvas together in a diverse approach. I am inspired by the abstract expressionist movement and the techniques established in that era. I am greatly influenced by Helen Frankenthaler and the ideas she is able to communicate through abstraction. I begin with the canvas on the ground as I pour and move paint around organically. I continually add layers, each holding its own emotional weight and symbolism. Similarly to how we enter each day with new inclinations and ideas. Meditation, mindfulness, and the notion of impermanence are ever present in my practice. These concepts heavily influence not only my paintings, but daily life as well. Through meditating and implementing mindfulness, we are collectively able to engage with life in a more fulfilling and positive way. In addition to calming the mind, there is truth that nothing is permanent. Shown through the external canvas sewn on, it is not fully ingrained in the painting. It can be moved, adjusted, or taken away altogether. There is a sense of relief knowing that everything is changing. We can observe rather than react in order to find peace within the present moment. My work aims to provide a place of respite for the viewer by communicating the flux of life. Using color, canvas, and the notions of meditation, my work encourages the viewer to step into an elevated emotional space to feel rather than strictly analyze. The ever-knowing truth that through presence, flow, and intention is where we can find our purpose in this resplendent life.

LINKS
https://www.emilyfaber.com

https://www.instagram.com/emilyfabercreative/

IMAGES

Emily Faber, “Presence,”
