A quick smile and a kind heart are evident when first meeting Aidan Davis. A closer look<\/p>\n

reveals a tenacious young man who sets and achieves goals with laser focus and persistence as a student, marathon runner and fishing lure artist.<\/p>\n

Carving fishing lures is a unique art form. The lures Davis carves are pieces of art and not used for fishing. Davis draws out the lure design on paper and then transfers it to the basswood. He saws, sands and whittles the block into the desired shape. He then uses an air brush to paint the lure before giving it a coat of epoxy clear coat, which is a delicate and difficult process.<\/p>\n

“I’ve been a fisherman my entire life,” Davis said. “My mom and my grandpa planted that seed. When I first saw a hand-carved fishing lure, I knew I wanted to learn to make them.”<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>10\/4 Pilar Pobil Legacy Foundation announces Scholarship<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Pilar Pobil Legacy Foundation <\/a>has committed $100,000 to establish an endowment which will permanently fund the Pilar Pobil Humanities Scholarship in the College of Humanities at the University of Utah. The scholarship will aid first generation college students in the Writing Studies Scholars Program who have demonstrated a commitment to human rights and social justice.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are honored that the Pilar Pobil Legacy Foundation has set up a scholarship for some of our most deserving students,\u201d said Hollis Robbins, dean of the College of Humanities. \u201cHer legacy will not only live through our talented students but through her artwork that is prominently displayed throughout our buildings.\u201d<\/p>\n

As a writer, painter, and sculptor, Pobil has been devoted to promoting human rights through the humanities.\u00a0Pobil has received many honors and awards, both locally and internationally. In 2019 she was named one of Utah\u2019s 15 Most Influential Artists. In 2016 she was knighted by the King of Spain for her extraordinary contribution to Spanish culture.\u00a0She projects a tremendous presence at the College of Humanities through her many vibrant paintings that grace its halls.<\/p>\n

\n\"\"<\/a>10\/1 Beth Krensky is one of four Americans Selected for Larnaca Biennale in Larnaca, Cyprus, Oct. 11 – Nov. 24
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Krensky will perform a durational performance, \u201cMake Me A Sanctuary,\u201d to inaugurate the Larnaca Biennale. The event is considered the biggest international art and culture event in Cyprus and attracts more than 25,000 visitors.<\/p>\n
