The studio workshop she ran in Salt Lake City in the early aughts was <a href=\"https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/index.php\/kamille-corry-tradition-alive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one of our earliest articles<\/a>. And she has just begun a multi-week workshop in SLC focusing on figure painting with ornamental backgrounds. But as she preps for that class, she is unpacking from several months abroad, painting <em>en plein air<\/em>.<\/h4>\n<h4 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI have been going back to Italy each year to spend 2-3 months painting at a residence just outside the center of Florence, which has a rich history of art,&#8221; says Corry, whose formative training happened in the city. &#8220;It is an oasis within Florence, and it feels like you\u2019re in the countryside, with its vast gardens and views of the hills above.&#8221; Her return this year was her first trip out of the U.S. since the Covid pandemic. <\/span><\/h4>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-69251 gallery-columns-2 gallery-size-medium'><dl class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<dt class='gallery-icon portrait'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/figurative-artist-kamille-corry-embraces-the-italian-landscape-and-islamic-design\/img_0935\/'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"240\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_0935.jpeg\" class=\"attachment-medium size-medium\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt><\/dl><dl class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<dt class='gallery-icon portrait'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/figurative-artist-kamille-corry-embraces-the-italian-landscape-and-islamic-design\/img_1227-2\/'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"240\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_1227-rotated.jpeg\" class=\"attachment-medium size-medium\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt><\/dl><br style=\"clear: both\" \/>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<h4 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Being in Italy and painting outside came as a breath of fresh air. &#8220;I primarily paint <em>en plein air<\/em>\u00a0when I\u2019m there, mostly because I don\u2019t have a studio, but also because the gardens are so inspiring, and it\u2019s very liberating to work on landscapes outdoors after being in my own studio for most of the year. Italy has always been a bit of a second home for me \u2014 the place where I feel most at home as an artist \u2014 and my goal while I\u2019m there is simply to paint love poems for a place that is always in my heart.&#8221;<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_9296-1-rotated.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-69257\" src=\"http:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_9296-1-rotated.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a>She didn&#8217;t stop with Italy, however. She also visited Istanbul and Malta. &#8220;In Istanbul, I participated in a course with <a href=\"https:\/\/artofislamicpattern.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Art of Islamic Pattern<\/a>, which focuses on techniques of historic Islamic designs. I did a few plein air watercolors while in Istanbul and Malta \u2014 definitely not a medium I am comfortable with, but easier to travel with than my oils on this trip.
