Do you remember the days when you barely left your house? When your sweatpants felt like a second skin? If you bought art, it was online? Well, those days are definitely over. Some fine threads should be on your gift list. And you should get out. Because the opportunities to buy art in person during the holiday season are spreading faster than the flu.<\/p>\n

Below is probably just a sampling of what’s going on in our community. It’s honestly, hard to keep up. We’ll be adding to this list as more comes our way (send yours to editor@artistsofutah.org)<\/p>\n

SUGAR HOUSE POP-UP GALLERY (SLC)
\nNow-Dec. 24<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the many charming bungalows in the Sugar House neighborhood of Salt Lake City has been transformed by Steve Creson into a pop-up gallery until Christmas Eve. Located at 1940 S 1100 East, it will be open 12 to 5pm Thursdays – Sundays. Textile, paintings, sculptural work, lino block printed clothing, hand painted vintage items created by: Dennis Reynolds, Corey Day, Portia Snow, Stefanie Dykes, Anna Hansen, Trent Call, Lisa DeFrance, Suzanne Bybee and Steve Creson.<\/p>\n

UTAH ART MARKET<\/strong><\/a> (SLC)
\nNov. 30 – Dec. 3, Dec. 7 – Dec. 10<\/strong><\/p>\n

There’s a good chance you’ve been to one of Utah Art Market’s quarterly events, but this one, in conjunction with the holiday season, is one of the biggest. At Woodbine Hall, 555 West 700 South, 10 am – 7 pm. If you’re visiting a lot of art markets one these weekends, plan for this one around lunch time: lots of good eats nearby.<\/p>\n

SPRINGVILLE MUSUEM OF ART<\/a> <\/strong>(SPRINGVILLE)
\nDec. 1 | 6:30 – 8 pm<\/strong><\/p>\n

The brainchild of soon-to-retire director Rita Wright, The 100 Dollar Show is a one-night event held annually on the first Thursday after Thanksgiving. The 35 invited artists come together to give back to the community by offering work at an affordable price.<\/p>\n

GALLERY STROLL <\/strong><\/a>(SLC)
\nDec. 2 | 6 – 9 pm<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes, Gallery Stroll<\/a> is around every month, usually landing on the third Friday of the month. But in December the stroll comes early and packed with artists: most of the galleries in town eschew the normal one- or two-person shows for group shows, generally featuring smaller and more affordable works, and giving you a chance to see all the artists in a gallery’s stable.<\/p>\n

THE MONARCH<\/a> <\/strong>(OGDEN)
\nDec. 2 | 6-9 pm<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Monarch Studios open every month for the First Friday Art Stroll and the month of December is no different. But, we imagine you’ll find a little extra holiday vibe going on this month and probably something to put under the tree.<\/p>\n

UMFA HOLIDAY ART MARKET<\/strong><\/a> (SLC)
\nDec. 3 – 4 | 9 am\u20145 pm<\/strong>

\u00a0The Utah Museum of Fine Arts<\/a> Museum Store always has some great art-inspired gift items, but on Dec. 3 and 4, your options will spill into the Great Hall. Prints, jewelry, candles, chocolates and more from local artists and makers. Entrance to the Great Hall is free, but exhibitions (like the Air<\/em><\/a> exhbiit) require an entrance fee.<\/p>\n

AMERICAN INDIAN WINTER ARTS MARKET AT THE U OF U (SLC)<\/strong>
\nDec. 3 – 4<\/strong><\/p>\n

Presented by the Utah Division of Indian Affairs, along with artists Radford Cuch and Eruera \u201cEd\u201d Napia, the market will feature jewelry, artwork and crafts from more than 40 vendors.<\/span><\/p>\n

The market will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Olpin Student Union Ballroom,\u00a0200 S. Central Campus Dr., Salt Lake City.<\/span><\/p>\n

RED BUTTE GARDEN <\/strong><\/a>(SLC)
\nDec. 3 – 4 | 10 am – 5 pm<\/strong><\/p>\n

You have until Dec. 20 to catch the Glass Art Guild’s 20th Anniversary Show, but if you stop in the weekend of Dec. 3 and 4 you can also catch the Red Butte Holiday Open House and Art Fair, featuring affordable fine art and items from local makers. Entrance is free.<\/p>\n

CRAFT LAKE CITY HOLIDAY MARKET <\/strong><\/a>(OGDEN)
\nDec. 2 – 3\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

You know them best for their summer event in Salt Lake City, but Craft Lake City does programming all year long, including the fourth annual Craft Lake City Holiday Market, in Ogden this year. The event, which takes place at Ogden’s Union Station, features work by more than 125 Utah-based creatives. Admission is $5 in advance, $7 day of market, and kids 12 and under are free. If you’re coming from the south, may we suggest taking the FrontRunner train, which will get you within walking distance of the event.<\/p>\n
