Alder, who writes a regular feature for 15 Bytes, invited contributors to the ezine to join him for a casual walking tour of the bank’s art collection, spread throughout the building. The group was able to admire the collection of early and contemporary Utah art, including art in private offices and the bank’s Board Room. Afterwards, the group perused the new collection of Utah landscapes by Frank Huff now hanging in the building’s main floor branch; they then continued down South Temple to the Museum of Utah Art and History where the Museum’s executive director, Kandace Steadman, offered light refreshments and a chance to see the Deseret News landscape show.

As the group made its way from the third to second floor of the Zions building, Jo-Ann Wong, a visual artist and member of the Salt Lake City Arts Council, herded all but a few stragglers onto the stairs for a group portrait (see above). Wong’s smiling face and digital camera are well-known to the Salt Lake City art community. For a selection of her snapshots at art events from the past year, see page 2.

The response to this tour was so successful that we are now busy planning future visits to private and public collections and exhibitions throughout Utah. You’ll hear more in these pages in the following months.

Best of all, the tour was a chance for members of the community to mingle with each other and meet some of our 15 Bytes writers, a number of whom were on hand. These writers, as well as our photographers, will be meeting for a brainstorming session on Monday, August 6th.
