Galleries in Downtown Provo have always been open late on the first Friday of every month for their gallery stroll, but their April event marked the beginning of a new annual event: “Art Chase.” People taking on the “Art Chase” challenge picked up a card at any of the participating galleries and raced to each listed gallery to find the pictured art and have their card stamped. Even if participants didn’t win something from the prize drawing, everyone got to see a variety of great art, eat free food, and listen to live music. Many of the “Art Chase” attendees didn’t know Provo had a gallery stroll until now, while others knew there was a stroll but had never made it to all of the galleries. The “Art Chase” provided an opportunity and incentive for people to broaden their artistic horizons.<\/p>\n

Naomi White, President of the Utah County Art Board said she “enjoyed greeting so many people and making new friends. It was so great to have so many people visiting our exhibit at the Health and Justice Building, especially during such a great exhibit by Don Allan and Betsy Baird. This event definitely gave our gallery more exposure, which we need.”<\/p>\n

Pamela Appleton, one of the lucky winners, has been attending the gallery stroll for four months. “I loved seeing the works on fabric by Noelle Olpin at Gallery OneTen. They inspired me to go home and work on my art projects.”<\/p>\n

The next Downtown Provo Gallery Stroll is on Friday, May 4th from 6-9 PM. The following galleries will participate:<\/p>\n

Coleman Studios<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0UP: Featuring gouache and watercolor illustrations by Nick Alder, graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and window dresser for Bloomingdale’s.<\/p>\n

Terra Nova Gallery<\/strong><\/a> UP: Trees, an exhibition by Barbara A. Lyman, through May 25.<\/p>\n

Freedom Gallery\u00a0<\/strong>(230 W Center St; 375-1150) UP:\u00a0Bon Voyage Exhibition, a<\/em>rt by Peter L. Myer, Emeritus BYU Art Professor, a silent auction on a lifetime of art work.<\/p>\n

Gallery OneTen\u00a0<\/strong>UP:\u00a0<\/em>Main Gallery: Paintings by Chris Petersen\u00a0|2|<\/strong>\u00a0and Mark England. Front Gallery: Paintings from Wasatch Elementary\u2019s Mrs. Avery\u2019s 2nd grade class. \u201cVice Versa\u201d boxes by Provo High students Jessica Li and Haliegh Ashby.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
