State). The vibrant mural, in secondary hues of purple, orange and green, showcases the city’s bikeways in a perspectival map that features prominent city landmarks, the downtown and Wasatch skylines and major trails: the 9-Line Trail, Jordan River Parkway Trail and Bonneville Shoreline Trail. The project was begun in the fall, but winter snow put it on halt. Work has resumed and Peterson hopes to have the work finished in the next week.

“The mural is meant to provide a bicycle-oriented perspective on the Salt Lake City landscape. Downtown bike lanes connect to trails along the river and in the foothills,” explains Peterson. “This artwork is about our city’s amazing landscape and the growing bike infrastructure that spans it.”
The SLC Bikeways Mural Project was made possible through support and collaboration with Crank SLC owners Christian Clemens and Juliet Lalouel, Bike Utah, and multimedia artist Patrick Clifford. The project also received support from the Utah Division of Arts and Museums’ “Random Acts of Art” grant program. You can catch Peterson working at the mural site (749 S. State Street) April 6, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., or various times throughout the week.

FLYING OBJECTS

Next week in Salt Lake City you can watch the installation of 18 large-scale sculptures as part of The Salt Lake City Public Art Program’s Flying Objects public art sculpture series. The current, temporary series of Flying Objects, 4.0 was installed in 2014 and will be deinstalled on April 14 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (if you fell in love with one of the pieces while it’s been up, now’s the time to buy it). The newest installation is happening this week.
