\"\"<\/a>Tyler Bloomquist, an artist and designer who earned\u00a0his BA in Graphic Design from the University of Utah, was\u00a0born in Salt Lake City and has lived downtown for 20 years. His varied artisitic practices\u2014painting\/drawing, printmaking, outdoor murals, photography, video\/editing, graphic design, music\/DJ-ing led naturally to his being an instructor\u00a0in the Multi-Disciplinary Design program at the University of Utah\u00a0where he has\u00a0championed his students to develop critical cultural awareness and to work on constructive problem solving through Salt Lake City-based community design projects.<\/p>\n

In 2018, Tyler is excited to bring his energy and eye to\u00a0Downtown SLC Presents<\/a>\u00a0in his new role as artistic director, with an aim to\u00a0embolden and showcase the art communities of Salt Lake City. He tells us: \u201cThis year\u00a0I was honored to have been selected as the Artistic Director for Downtown SLC Presents,\u00a0which is the\u00a0managing entity of the Cultural Core initiative. This initiative\u00a0is\u00a0a visionary collaboration of the City and County\u00a0of Salt Lake to promote\u00a0and leverage the abundance of\u00a0cultural offerings in downtown Salt Lake City. The idea is to raise\u00a0the tide that lifts the whole arts community\u00a0and share its wealth of experiences with people throughout the region on a local,\u00a0national and\u00a0international level.\u00a0This new role allows me to focus my\u00a0energy and ideas into creating\u00a0innovative ways of\u00a0emboldening\u00a0and showcasing the art communities\u00a0of Salt Lake City, an opportunity I am very excited to realize.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Also in 2017, Bloomquist was perhaps most excited\u00a0to show a new body of work titled\u00a0<\/span>Confusion<\/em>\u00a0at\u00a0Fice Gallery that we reviewed\u00a0here<\/a>. \u201cThe work, [an exploration of police violence], was a new direction for me,\u201d he says, \u201callowing the simultaneous exploration of my interests in conceptual work and pushing traditional mediums in new ways. Thanks again to Corey Bullough and Fice for sharing their space to show my work.\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
