Look at its location on a map and its hard to think of a more out of the way place for a piece of public art, but people who work in anonymous office buildings under the shadow of the freeway deserve aesthetic pleasure just as much as anyone else.<\/p>\n

Frank Rigg\u2019s untitled 1978 minimalist sculpture graces the grounds of the Salt Lake City Public Services Parks Division building.<\/p>\n

The work, commissioned for $5,000, was the first in Salt Lake City’s “percent for arts” program, which was enacted in March, 1978.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is completely abstracted, with semi-circular forms symbolic of the tree itself and the vertical forms representative of the trunk,\u201d the artist told the Salt Lake Tribune.<\/p>\n

Riggs was a New York City artist who originally came to Utah to take a position at Brigham Young University.<\/p>\n
