She is leaving to pursue new opportunities and challenges in the arts and community service sectors in Salt Lake City. Art Access is seeking a new director who will continue to build the strength and vitality of the organization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1466528759247_484893\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1466528759247_484892\">Gillilan began with Art Access in 2004 as the part-time finance manager, and was promoted to assistant director in 2009. After conducting an extensive search in the summer of 2011, the board appointed Gillilan as the executive director. \u201cIt has been an honor to be part of an organization that makes a real difference in people\u2019s lives,\u201d Gillilan said.\u201d I have mixed emotions about leaving, but I feel it\u2019s time for the next chapter of my career.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1466528759247_484898\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1466528759247_484897\">During Gillilan\u2019s time as director of Art Access, the organization has continued to increase its community presence and is known for its cutting-edge programs and exhibits. She credits dedicated staff and board members with helping to stabilize the organization financially after a severe cutback in federal funds in 2011, and helping to cultivate multiple community partnerships that enable Art Access to reach out more effectively to underserved populations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1466528759247_484900\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1466528759247_484899\">\u201cWe are proud of the work Art Access has done during Sheryl\u2019s tenure as director,\u201d said MaryLee Peters, Board Chair. \u201cBecause of her leadership and vision, Art Access has presented exhibitions and workshops that have initiated positive community dialogue on a variety of sensitive subjects that are not often open for public discussion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Art Access\u2019s vision is to demonstrate that the arts connect people across differences and help forge a stronger community. The organization offers high-quality, mission-driven programming focused on capturing the experiences and stories of everyone\u2013especially those who have been disenfranchised.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1466528759247_484912\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1466528759247_484911\">\u201cThe work of Art Access is more important than ever as we continue to witness needless divisions and animosities among people in our country,\u201d Peters said. \u201cWe are looking for a smart, dedicated and compassionate leader who will support our staff, board and patrons as we continue to engage respectfully with all members of our community.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1466528759247_484928\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Art Access has announced that after 12 years with the organization, Executive Director Sheryl Gillilan will resign on September 30, 2016.
