Hadley Anne Rampton works at Phillips Gallery. The question is: WHEN, exactly, does she do that? I mean, her lovely watercolors and sketches hail from Slovenia, Santiago, Santa Margherita, Kosovo, Macedonia, Armenia, Budapest . . . she is everywhere on the planet. And she is collected everywhere, it seems, too. There\u2019s a show in March at Art Access titled \u201cOn the Border: Thailand and Myanmar Paintings\u201d with two other artists. (I think she is Myanmar.) She also shows her work at Phillips, and says:<\/p>\n

\u201cAs 2016 rolls in you\u2019ll find me continuing to set up my easel, canvas, palette and paints in the Rocky Mountain wilderness that I love and where I have been plein air painting for the past 17 years. My subject matter has not changed significantly over the years but the way in which I apply paint has. I continue exploring different mark-making techniques as I respond to the natural beauty surrounding me. Shall I work with a palette knife or brush? How will I blend my strokes, if at all? With what degree of emotional energy versus considered thought will I lay down my stroke? I continue to be intrigued by the juxtaposition of realism and abstraction. To which will I give authority? This is ever changing, and that is one of the reasons my work continues to intrigue me. \u201c<\/p>\n

Sounds like maybe Hadley\u2019s going to stay home this year.<\/p>\n
