He told <em>them <\/em>he\u2019s been playing drums since he was 10 and \u201cthought that being a professional musician would be pretty awesome.\u201d He also confessed to a fear of snakes. He didn\u2019t tell <em>us<\/em> anything nearly as cool, but he admires Utah artist David Dornan and jazzman Dave Brubeck and that\u2019s plenty good enough. He got his bachelor\u2019s at USU, lives in Logan, snowboards and cooks, and says he often finds \u201cinspiration for my still-life paintings while going on hikes through the mountains or in the garden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Swain states: \u201cMy work is a reflection of my ongoing interest in the natural world and finding beauty in simplicity,\u201d adding \u201cI paint with a classical approach, carefully constructing the subject in layers of oil paint while providing a fresh take on the conventional still-life genre.\u201d He also likes the Dutch Masters.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Tyler-Swain-Solitary-3-final.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-31410\" src=\"http:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Tyler-Swain-Solitary-3-final-846x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Tyler Swain Solitary 3 - final\" width=\"600\" height=\"726\" srcset=\"https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Tyler-Swain-Solitary-3-final-846x1024.jpg 846w, https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Tyler-Swain-Solitary-3-final-248x300.jpg 248w, https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Tyler-Swain-Solitary-3-final-900x1090.jpg 900w, https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Tyler-Swain-Solitary-3-final.jpg 1869w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He finds that 2016 \u201cis shaping up to be a pretty exciting year. I have two exhibitions right off the bat: a group show with Holly Conger and Kristin Gulledge at the Covey Center for the Arts in Provo [opening Jan. 8, 6-9 p.m. and running through Feb. 29] and a group still life show entitled &#8220;Be Still&#8221; [what else?] at the Bountiful Davis Art Center [opening Jan. 15, 7-9 p.m.].\u00a0 I am also preparing for several juried shows as well as this year&#8217;s \u2018Art and Soup\u2019 at the Salt Palace [the first week in March].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The artist adds, \u201cI feel so fortunate to be able to spend my days doing the thing I love most &#8211; painting in my studio, and I look forward to many, many hours of creating in 2016.
