{"id":28548,"date":"2015-03-31T16:31:41","date_gmt":"2015-03-31T22:31:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/?p=28548"},"modified":"2018-11-05T17:11:09","modified_gmt":"2018-11-05T23:11:09","slug":"dance-at-memorial-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/dance-at-memorial-house\/","title":{"rendered":"Dance at Memorial House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/123702858\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center><br \/>\nvideo by Jeremy Bigelow<\/p>\n<p>review by Kate Monson<\/p>\n<p>A night of dance in a beautiful intimate setting, in this case the Memorial House, really gets my hopes up. \u00a0So as I walked through the doors for the recent loveDANCEmore event on March 22 I had one thought on my mind, \u201cplease don\u2019t disappoint me.\u201d \u00a0I am an unabashed lover of all things dance but I am not immune to that sinking feeling of witnessing a perhaps well conceived, but not well-executed dance event. \u00a0Happily this sensation was avoided, and I enjoyed an evening of stylistically diverse, meaningful movement.<\/p>\n<p>Efren Corado\u2019s piece, Song for One or More, was a well-crafted trio that brought to mind Cunningham\u2019s work reflected by Corado\u2019s use of pragmatic simultaneous movement. \u00a0Unlike Cunningham these three dancers each had their own take, their own nuance inside the movement. Constructed in mostly shifting formations of unison, it brought to mind the inner workings of a business, everyone doing the same basic things but in their own way revealing more of a power structure than that dreaded arts word \u2014 synergy.<\/p>\n<p>In delightfully typical hurdy-gurdy meets Greek goddess manner, Amy Freitas and the improvisation collective Porridge for Goldilocks presented Porridge for Memories with sensitive pulsating music support from Wachira Waigwa-Stone. \u00a0Episodic and meandering through several vignettes, I wasn\u2019t sure how everything connected together but I also didn\u2019t care. \u00a0Each section was presented thoughtfully and uniquely. \u00a0Especially delightful was the quartet danced by Brooklyn Draper, Keanu Forrest Brady, Joshua Mora and Emma Wilson where they playfully responded to poetry by Nick Shifrar.
