Standing at the mouth of Emigration Canyon on July 24, 1847, Brigham Young stated \u201cThis is the Place.\u201d As a culture, we often forget to pay heed to our ties to the land. But it is incredibly important to consider the effect that place has on us. Just as we shape and build the landscape around us, the landscape shapes and builds each of us.<\/p>\n

This August, the Rio Gallery will host This Is the Place. <\/em>They are seeking all who have been influenced by Utah to interact with the show by submitting a photograph or short video of your favorite place or memorable moment in Utah. If you feel any tie to the landscape or have been touched by the remarkable surroundings in our state, send in your photos! Summer is the time for road trips, national park visits, hikes, and everything else outdoors. This is your chance to share your vacation photos with the general public. Or send a photo in your archive of something that says what home is for you. Or make it a special trip: Seek out the place that comes immediately to mind when you think of Utah, and take your snapshot.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 provide your name and precise place you took the video<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 quicktime file (.mov)<\/p>\n

Those who submit their photos\/videos will be able to see their work in a digital slideshow that will play in the gallery.<\/p>\n

The exhibit will be held August 16 – September 13 with a public reception on Friday, August 16 from 6-9 PM during the Salt Lake Gallery Stroll. Be sure to stop by with your family and friends to see your piece in the show!<\/p>\n
