This Friday is the first of the month, which means it’s Ogden and Provo’s turn for their gallery walks. For Ogden, it’s also the Ogden Arts Festival, June 7 & 8, a free event with artist booths, kids activities, live music and a plein air exhibit and competition. While you’re up there, whether for the festival or for the monthly gallery walk, be sure to stop in at WHITESPACE, a contemporary art venue that just opened in Ogden.<\/p>\n

Located at 2420 Wall Avenue (1\/2 block N of Historic 25th), WHITESPACE is available to outside curatorial projects and exhibition proposals in all media, from organizations and individuals seeking to expand contemporary art dialogue. Manager Scott Patria describes it as “a low-profit social enterprise that produces and hosts events, programs, and exhibitions for the purpose of developing artist-audience relationships in north central Utah.” Patria is owner of PATRAJDAS Contemporary, a Utah-based contemporary art project. PATRAJDAS will curate the June exhibition \u2014 Melange<\/em> a group show of selected artists.\u00a0 The exhibition includes painting, photography and sculpture from across the US., with a special focus on visceral paintings by Rogelio Manzo, of Sacramento, CA and a photographic study of texture and color by Amelju, of Ogden. WHITESPACE will host a preview event from 5-7pm on Friday, June 7.\u00a0 This event, in coordination with the Ogden Arts Festival, is free and open to the public. Melange<\/em> runs through June 30.<\/p>\n

For July, WHITESPACE will host Today\u2019s Paper<\/em> a group exhibition of works on and of paper, featuring political collage by Tm Gratkowski of Los Angeles, Judy Csotsits of Oakland, and Brian Usher of Salt Lake City. \u00a0\u201cToday\u2019s Paper\u201d will open in concert with Ogden\u2019s First Friday Gallery Stroll on July 6, with a public reception from 6-9pm. \u00a0\u201cToday\u2019s Paper\u201d will run through July 30.<\/p>\n
