The piece was awarded &#8220;Best of Show&#8221; for the organization&#8217;s\u00a02007 National Juried Competition Exhibition in Scottsdale, Arizona.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span>&#8220;Duet, Mary &amp; Martha\u201d was selected from a field of 1500 entries from over 300 women, representing all 50 states and 3 Canadian provinces.<span> The bronze features two women, standing back to back, engulged in flowing skirts. Everett says the sculpture refers to the Biblical figures of Mary, representing the spiritual and creative self, and Martha, symbolic of daily cares and responsibilities. She says each of us is both Mary and Martha and if one side is neglected we are incomplete and unhappy.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span><a href=\"http:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/everett11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-15025\" title=\"everett1\" src=\"http:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/everett11.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/everett11.jpg 250w, https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/everett11-210x300.jpg 210w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a>Annette Everett currently shares a studio and gallery, The Artists Cottage,\u00a0 located at 26 West Tabernacle, Saint George, Utah.<span> <\/span>The studio is open daily and welcomes art enthusiasts.<span> <\/span>She has taught oil painting and pastel painting for many years, and has participated in every local art event, including Art in the Park, Dixie State College Sears Invitational Art Show, and Saint George Art Festival.<span> Everett&#8217;s<\/span> work has been included in St. George&#8217;s \u201cArt Around the Corner\u201d since its beginning.<span> <\/span>This month, two of her large sculptures will be installed and dedicated in Dixie:\u00a0\u201cThe Sandman,\u201d a 6.5 foot monument of a teenage volunteer commemorating the floods of 2005, in the downtown Saint George Square; and\u00a0\u201cThe Volunteer,\u201d a 6.5 foot of an adult man in the turnouts of a volunteer fire fighter, to\u00a0be placed at the Santa Clara City Office Building.<span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Annette Everett of Saint George was honored with &#8220;Best of Show&#8221;\u00a0for her sculpture, \u201cDuet, Mary &amp; Martha\u201d by a jury of Master Signature Members of American Women Artists (AWA), a non-profit organization dedicated to the inspiration, celebration and encouragement of women in the arts.
