Adam Watkins was born on Nov 2, 1981 in Layton Utah. After receiving his associates degree in 2009 he graduated Art Cum-Luade with a BFA from the University of Utah in the spring of 2012. In the fall of that same year he was invited back to the U of U to continue studying photography in the MFA program with an Assistantship award. Adam is a member of the Salt City Photo Society, The Golden Key International Honor Society and Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society.<\/p>\n

Apart from commerce, Adam’s work has been seen in national Fine Art publications: Diffusion: Unconventional Photography Magazine, Exposure: 2011 Year in Review. His images have also been displayed at numerous local galleries including: The Alvin Gittens Gallery, Williams Fine Art Gallery, The Rio Grande Gallery and The J. Willard Marriott Library. Adam lives and continues his work with his fiancee Haeleigh at their home in Salt Lake City, Utah.<\/p>\n

Artist Statement<\/h3>\n

We live in a world of evolving distractions that steer us away from the importance of the present moment. Subtle events, which shape our lives and the lives of those around us frequently go unnoticed, often ironically, as we engage in social media and egocentric concerns of our own \u201cstatus\u201d. What is our cultural perception of reality? What are we missing and what will take us back to an awareness of what is really going on?<\/p>\n

Photography has long been used to capture the present moment. However, its depiction of the truth is subject to every choice made behind the lens. With that in mind, I use photography to create or recreate important moments that I might have missed, even in places that I have never been, which allows me objective insight into my own understanding of the human experience. The staging of these narratives is central to a concept that allows me to move in the direction of discovery, to evaluate my commonality with those around me, and to draw attention to the importance of a split second in time.<\/p>\n
