{"id":173,"date":"2007-12-07T15:21:49","date_gmt":"2007-12-07T21:21:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15bytes12\/2007\/12\/07\/cara-despain-from-art-basel-miami\/"},"modified":"2025-10-23T19:25:45","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T02:25:45","slug":"cara-despain-from-art-basel-miami","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/cara-despain-from-art-basel-miami\/","title":{"rendered":"Cara Despain from Art Basel, Miami"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Cara Despain, a regular contributor to 15 Bytes, is visiting Art Basel in Miami this week, so we asked her to send us some posts about her experience there:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Jason Teaoka, showing at Tomio Koyama Gallery\" height=\"295\" alt=\"Jason Teaoka, showing at Tomio Koyama Gallery\" hspace=\"5\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tomiokoyamagallery.com\/\" width=\"265\" align=\"left\" vspace=\"5\" border=\"1\" \/>Day one:<\/strong>&nbsp; Art Basel Miami officially opened at the convention center yesterday.&nbsp; We got a somewhat late start, so we didn&#8217;t see too much last night.&nbsp; I CAN&#8217;T BELIEVE HOW MUCH ART IS IN THERE.&nbsp; When we looked at a map at dinner of what we had covered, it was a tenth of what is packed in there&#8211;over 200 galleries from all over the world.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday I saw some German and Japanese galleries that were pretty sweet.&nbsp; One of my favorites among galleries was Tomio Koyama Gallery from Tokoyo, who appears to represent a buncha awesome contemporary Japanses artists.&nbsp; They had mostly paintings there that were odd and<br \/>lovely.&nbsp; We also checked out Supernova, a section of newer, emerging artists.&nbsp; Most of them were represented by galleries in <span class=\"yshortcuts\" style=\"cursor: hand; border-bottom: #0066cc 1px dashed\">New York<\/span>. Pretty exciting stuff.&nbsp; And its just the tip of the iceburg.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nWe are about to embark on today&#8217;s venture through the convention center.
