{"id":16600,"date":"2000-05-18T10:20:36","date_gmt":"2000-05-18T16:20:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/?p=16600"},"modified":"2021-02-24T13:27:43","modified_gmt":"2021-02-24T19:27:43","slug":"anna-pottier-hickman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/anna-pottier-hickman\/","title":{"rendered":"Anna Pottier-Hickman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Pottier-Hickman_headshot.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16611\" title=\"Pottier-Hickman_headshot\" src=\"https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Pottier-Hickman_headshot.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Pottier-Hickman_headshot.jpg 600w, https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Pottier-Hickman_headshot-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/artistsofutah.org\/15Bytes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Pottier-Hickman_headshot-500x375.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Bio\/Artist Statement<\/h3>\n<p id=\"yui_3_7_2_1_1359072311275_4824\">Pottier-Hickman is a\u00a05th\u00a0generation Acadian, originally from Belleville, Nova Scotia.\u00a0 That region\u2019s worn, used feel, its unique atmosphere, continues to inform her approach\u00a0to light and the emotions they generate. \u00a0She draws on memories of extensive travels in Italy, Greece, and Spain, as well as many years spent in Montreal where she was wife and amanuensis to a well-known poet.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_7_2_1_1359072311275_4822\">Her Maritime roots, however, are now being watered by desert landscapes here in the American southwest.\u00a0Pottier works primarily in oils, often reaching for her camera in lieu of plein air painting. \u00a0Landscapes and\u00a0still-lifes\u00a0are a principal focus. \u00a0Depending on the mood or energy of a photo, it can become a a painting, such as &#8220;Green Truck&#8221;, \u00a0which is underway to becoming a 36&#8243; x 18&#8243; painting. \u00a0Bold, saturated color is as much a\u00a0part of the picture as the subject itself.\u00a0Her landscapes \u00a0&#8211; which could almost be called \u201cland-escapes\u201d- \u00a0and still-lifes depict\u00a0not so much precise surroundings, but strive to convey the emotional realism of\u00a0intensely felt perceptions as triggered by a time, place, or thing.\u00a0 Some of her favorite influences include Edward Hopper, Milton Avery, Georgia O\u2019Keeffe, and Matisse among many others.<\/p>\n<p>In the belief that all great art is an attempt to stop time, a means of cheating death, \u00a0she often seeks to capture that moment in which an object or scene stands completely apart from its everyday context. \u00a0This hunting for just the right light and object is a never-ending, exhilarating game. \u00a0Pottier hopes her work will strike a chord of recognition, and above all else, give viewers a\u00a0simple, mysterious pleasure.<\/p>\n<p>Love and landscapes brought her to Davis County, where she lives with her husband Grant. \u00a0They hope to move south of SLC to be closer to some of the most spectacular land-escapes and the canyon-lands&#8217;
