Rent a studio for a year? Create a new body of work? Hire a photographer to document all your art? Launch a website? Travel to all those openings your work is featured in but you\u2019re too art-poor to attend?<\/p>\n<p>Utah Arts &amp; Museums is awarding two outstanding Utah artists a $10K Visual Art Fellowship Award in 2013. They are available for individual artists practicing crafts, painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, artist&#8217;s bookmaking, and working in new genres such as conceptual arts and video. Fellowship grants do not require matching funds, and you don&#8217;t have to do anything specific with the money. The award is more about what you&#8217;ve done than what they want you to do. But the deadline to apply is quickly approaching \u2013 February 1. Applying artists must demonstrate professionalism in their art through quality images and documentation. Artists must be Utah residents not enrolled in a degree or certificate-granting program.<\/p>\n<p>Recipients are chosen by an esteemed out-of-state juror who reviews images, artist statements and resumes. This year\u2019s juror is Richard Roth of Virginia Commonwealth University (and it doesn&#8217;t hurt to check out the juror&#8217;s own work or professional practice before preparing your own application).<\/p>\n<p>And the icing on the $10,000 award cake is that the Utah Arts Council also commissions 15 Bytes to produce one of our great short documentaries on the winners.
