Mexico\u2019s Daniel Cat\u00e1n was first performed in 1996 as a commission for\u00a0Houston Grand Opera, Los Angeles Opera and\u00a0Seattle Opera\u00a0and was the first Spanish-language opera to be commissioned by major United States opera houses.<\/p>\n<p>The two-act story tells of Florencia Grimaldi, a famous soprano returning to her homeland to sing at the opera house in Manaus with the hope that her performance will attract Cristobal, a butterfly hunter who has disappeared into the jungle. She boards the El Dorado and travels down the Amazon River.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_7_2_1_1358488046209_58147\">The opera is offering Artes and friends of Artes 2 for 1 tickets AND $10 tickets for students! \u00a0If you want to tell the Utah Opera that you want more operas in Spanish make a point to attend this one.
